TEP Pupil Engagement Census: Findings and Implications
TEP Pupil Engagement Census: Findings and Implications
Rob Carpenter, CEO of the Inspire Partnership, discusses the findings of the TEP pupil engagement census, a large-scale survey measuring student engagement in English schools. The census, modelled after a Canadian system, assesses engagement across cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor domains, providing valuable data for school improvement. Initial results reveal disparities in engagement levels amongst different pupil groups, particularly regarding Year 6 pupils and those eligible for free school meals. Rob Carpenter advocates using this data to re-evaluate school organisation, curriculum, and assessment, aligning with a broader movement emphasising the importance of student well-being and aligning with international best practice, such as Singapore's approach to education. The findings highlight the need to address inequalities and foster a more inclusive and engaging learning environment for all.
